General Data

Terms of Service

Last updated: August 28, 2026

These Terms govern your use of General Data, the platform operated by The General Data Corporation ("General Data", "we", "us" or "our"). General Data is software for running data transactions: requests, supplier intake, sample review, rights diligence, contracts and controlled delivery. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Terms on behalf of yourself and the organization you represent.

1. Who can use General Data

General Data is for business use. You must be at least 18 and have authority to act for the organization you name on your account.

Keep your account details accurate and your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.

2. What General Data does

General Data provides the workflow and records for a data transaction. The parties are buyers, who request and license data; data owners, who supply it; brokers, who introduce owners to buyers; and human reviewers, such as counsel, privacy and security staff, who approve each step.

Unless a transaction names General Data as a party, the license is between the buyer and the data owner, and between them and any broker. General Data does not own, buy or resell the datasets that move through the platform.

3. Requests and intake

Buyers describe what they need in a request: the data, volume, permitted uses, personal-data tolerance and delivery mode. Buyers may share intake links so suppliers and brokers can respond.

Everything you submit must be accurate. Brokers must disclose that they are acting as a broker and on whose behalf.

4. Samples

Data owners prove what they have with a sample, not the full dataset. We scan samples for quality and for personal data, and we may flag, redact or reject a sample.

Samples are used only to evaluate the transaction they were submitted for, and are shared only with the parties to that transaction.

5. Rights diligence

Data owners represent that they hold the rights they claim, including the right to license the data for the uses stated in the request, and that any evidence they attach is genuine and current.

Approvals recorded on the platform document a party's decision. They do not move responsibility from the party that made a claim to the party that reviewed it. General Data does not provide legal advice.

6. Contracts

License terms are assembled from the request and the diligence record. Each party is responsible for reviewing the terms before signing. Signatures may be collected through an electronic signature provider.

The signed license, not these Terms, governs what a buyer may do with the licensed data.

7. Delivery and access

Data moves only after every required party has approved one frozen dataset version, license and access policy. Delivery may be a direct file transfer, a clean room or compute-to-data, as the license allows.

Where a delivery mode requires General Data to handle data, we do so only as needed to complete the delivery and as the license permits. Access is logged and can be revoked as the license provides.

8. Fees and payment

Data owners pay a success fee only when a sale closes: 10% of the first €250,000 of the sale price, 8% of the part between €250,000 and €1,000,000, and 6% of any part above €1,000,000. Nothing is charged upfront, and no fee is due if there is no sale. Buyers pay a platform fee of 10% of the license value when a license is signed. The fees that apply to a transaction are shown on the deal before anyone signs.

Fees exclude taxes. Payments are processed by our payment provider. We may change fees for future transactions with notice; changes never apply to licenses already signed.

9. Brokers

Brokers register their introductions on the platform. Each claim is timestamped, and duplicate submissions are flagged. Any commission is agreed between the broker and the party paying it, and is shown on the deal.

Broker commission. A broker who introduces a data owner through their link is paid a share of the platform fee General Data charges the buyer on every license that owner signs with that buyer for 12 months after the first introduction: 50% for owners first introduced by 31 March 2027, 23:59 Paris time, and 20% after that, up to US$55,000 per deal. The first broker to introduce an owner to a buyer is credited; later introductions of the same owner in that window are not. Commission is earned when the buyer has paid the invoice, comes out of General Data's fee and does not change what the owner or the buyer pays. It is not earned on a broker's own workspace, or on licenses that are voided or refunded.

Broker profiles. A broker profile is a public page at gdx.sh/brokers that shows a broker's name, company, links and deals. Anyone can view it. The profile is tied to the email it was created with: a one-time code sent to that email is the only way to edit it.

"Verified broker" means General Data has checked the broker's email and reviewed who they are. It is not an endorsement, a guarantee of any deal, or a statement that the broker is licensed or regulated. We may withdraw the badge, or suspend a profile, at any time, including when information on it is inaccurate or misleading.

Deals marked "Verified on General Data" are deals the broker submitted as the broker, with the email on their profile, that were delivered on the platform. The profile shows only the kind of data and the month of delivery; the other details stay confidential to the parties. Deals marked "Listed by broker" are the broker's own account, and General Data has not checked them. Brokers must list only deals they took part in, and must not name a party who has not agreed to be named.

Launch fee waiver. Profiles created before 30 November 2026, 23:59 Paris time, carry a waiver of up to US$5,000 in General Data platform fees. Once the profile is verified, the waiver applies to the platform fee on licenses for deals the broker brings to General Data, meaning deals the broker submits as the broker with the email on their profile. It is applied when the license is invoiced, reduces that invoice's platform fee, and is used up across licenses until the US$5,000 is reached or 12 months pass from the day the profile was created, whichever comes first.

The waiver has no cash value, cannot be withdrawn, exchanged, transferred or combined across profiles, and does not reduce the license value paid to the data owner. Waived amounts on licenses that are voided or refunded return to the waiver. One profile per person. We may cancel a waiver that is obtained or used through false information, self-dealing or deals made only to use it, and may end the offer for new profiles with notice.

10. Acceptable use

Do not submit data you are not entitled to license, data obtained unlawfully, or evidence you know to be false. Do not attempt to re-identify individuals in any sample or delivered dataset.

Do not interfere with the platform, bypass access controls, scrape it, or upload malicious code.

ApplePie API. The ApplePie API (generaldata.io/api/v1/pii, and the same tool over MCP) finds personal data in text you send. An API key is personal to the email it was issued to; keep it secret, because you are responsible for requests made with it. Each key includes 100 free requests. More are available on terms agreed with General Data: contact [email protected].

We may limit, suspend or revoke a key at any time, including for abuse, sharing a key, creating keys to obtain more free requests, or trying to get around limits. Send only text you are entitled to process. Results are automated: they can miss personal data or flag text that is not personal, and they are not legal advice or a guarantee of anonymization. The ApplePie model itself is licensed separately under CC BY-NC 4.0; commercial use of the model outside the API requires a license from The General Data Corporation.

11. Confidentiality

Information shared within a transaction, including requests, samples, diligence documents and draft terms, is confidential to the parties to that transaction. Use it only to evaluate and perform that transaction.

12. Your content

You keep ownership of what you upload. You grant General Data a limited license to host, process and display your content only as needed to run the platform and the transactions you direct.

13. Records

General Data keeps an audit trail of actions taken in each transaction, such as submissions, approvals, signatures, access and changes. The parties to a transaction can see its record, and we may rely on it to resolve disputes or meet legal obligations.

14. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or create legal or security risk. Licenses already signed between parties continue under their own terms.

15. Disclaimers

The platform is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, General Data makes no warranty about the accuracy, legality, quality or fitness of any dataset, or about the outcome of any transaction.

16. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, General Data is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, data or revenue. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

17. Indemnification

You will defend and indemnify General Data against claims arising from data or evidence you submit, from your breach of these Terms or of a license you signed, or from your violation of law.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, unless mandatory local law applies.

19. Cookies

General Data uses cookies that are necessary to sign you in and keep the platform secure. Our Privacy Policy explains each one.

20. Changes

We may update these Terms. We will notify you of material changes before they take effect. Continuing to use the platform after that means you accept the updated Terms.
